MagnaTrack Outdoor Design Trends: 2025 Edition

Happy New Year! Let’s resolve to finally redo your patio or outdoor space in 2025!
We understand putting off big projects, like redoing your patio, is easy. But that also means you put off enjoying the finished big project. To help motivate you to finally give yourself the patio of your dreams, we will show you some of the design trends in 2025 that we’re most excited to install screens around.
Seamless Transitions from Inside to Outside.
According to Architectural Digest’s contributor Tina Ramchandani, a New York-based interior designer, “Clients are excited about feeling like they are in their living rooms—just outside! This involves carrying the same flooring or same color/finish of flooring, similar furniture and fabric styles, and the same color palette over to the exterior area.”
We love to hear this because we’ve noticed it’s on the rise among our clients. The more MagnaTrack screens can assist in climate control and weatherproofing, the more we’re seeing outdoor spaces that look almost like indoor spaces. In fact, another example in that article sounded exactly like a recommendation we would have made for hosting holiday dinners over the last couple of months. A project in Napa, California, has an outdoor open-air pavilion outfitted with a dining table that acts as a fully functioning alfresco entertainment area. And with a little help from us, you can expect to enjoy that entertainment area all year round and protect the area from harsh weather.
Going Soft Outside
More and more, we’re seeing outdoor furniture that has the feel and look of indoor furniture. Obviously, this is part of the seamless transition trend, but it’s also about aesthetics and comfort. Architectural Digest contributor Jium Ho, a San Francisco–based interior and product designer, said, “Out is the dull, square-edged, traditional, utilitarian teak furniture that screams ‘Grandma’s house.’”
Both professional designers and their clients are “embracing sculptural, weather-resilient furnishings that can hold their own—and play as well outside as they potentially could indoors.” Additionally, that rough, hard-edged vibe that so much outdoor furniture has is being pushed aside for softer, cozier furnishings like entire couches and rugs. This is another trend we’ve been seeing in our clients as well. We love it because our screens help protect that plusher, softer furniture from the elements, keeping it comfortable and attractive longer.
But it doesn’t stop at the furniture. In 2025, patios will offer the same coziness as their indoor counterparts even during colder months. Infrared heaters, fire pits, and outdoor fireplaces generate the necessary heat for winter, while misting systems and fans provide relief during the summer, all enclosed in weatherproof MagnaTrack screens. This trend toward softness also includes lighting. Fairy lights, lanterns, and LED candles can all work to create a warm atmosphere that’s enhanced by the colder weather around your space.
Outdoor Kitchens, Not Just Dining
We’ve moved away from the days of a simple grill and picnic table. We want to dine al fresco in comfort, but more and more, we also want to prepare our food outside, which will only gain popularity in 2025. We’re already seeing more fully equipped culinary hubs on patios that feature specialized concepts like pizza ovens as well as more traditional – but unexpected when found outside – features, like wine fridges and dishwashers. Just like other trends, the focus is on creating a seamless experience where preparing a meal and eating it are equally enjoyable while outside.
Integrated Technology
With our remotes, wall plates, and app-integrated smart technology, MagnaTrack is actually already on the cutting edge of this trend. According to Garden Design, “Technology is being seamlessly integrated into patio designs, making outdoor spaces not just beautiful but highly functional. 2025 is the year patios get smarter than ever, allowing you to control your outdoor lighting, heating, and even the sound system with a tap on your smartphone. From automated pergolas that adjust to the sun’s position to wireless charging stations embedded in furniture, enhancing outdoor living feels both luxurious and practical.”
Building technology into your screens and protecting the rest of your integrated technology is already a MagnaTrack promise. So, in a way, we’re seeing this trend catch up to us!
Wild Gardening and Native Plants
So many of our clients have their outdoor areas right next to their gardens to enjoy the beauty and color of flowers or watch their vegetables grow. But the newest trend in gardening is moving away from that kind of regimentation and into “wild gardening” with plants native to your area.
Wild gardening puts aside the typical conventions of a modern garden to follow nature’s guiding principles instead. In the face of dwindling numbers of important insects and birds, many see wild gardening as a way to give back to nature by creating attractive spaces for human eyes that still help wildlife to thrive.
This is also why plants already native to your area are in high demand for wild gardens. Plantlife that has already evolved to thrive in your area will not only be easy to cultivate but will also be ready-made with the nutrients needed by native birds and insects. “From the industry perspective, native plants and the conversation about the utility of native plants continues to be a hot topic. We probably get the most requests from our customers for literature, messaging, and information on this topic,” says Andrew Jager, Marketing Manager for Walters Gardens via Garden Design.
We love the idea of wild gardening because it is beautiful without being cultivated and formal. Attracting pollinators and other insects is beneficial to nature, and with our insect-protection screens, you can enjoy your garden at the same time as the insects without getting into one another’s business.
